If you haven’t read any of my Badari Warriors series: Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony from the Sectors to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens.

The excerpt – now Flo’s agreed to take the mission, she’s getting the implant from MARL, the ancient alien Artificial Intelligence.

MARL  created a three dimensional image of a silver circle, etched or inscribed with symbols, “Here is the insert, magnified many million times. Neither you nor the Khagrish has the technology to detect it once I’ve set the actual transmitter into your tissues.”

Flo thought it was a little odd the AI possessed this technology, almost like chipping an animal but she decided the topic was a discussion for another day. Or maybe above her rank in the scheme of things – immaterial to the mission at hand, “Thanks for the visual but just get it over with.”

Metallic skin flashing red-violet, the AI wasted no more time, “Inserting now.”

She didn’t feel a thing, nor did she feel any different,“Is it working?”

“Yes, I’m getting location data,” MARL said, “You are here.”

“Did you just make a joke?” Flo sat up and asked for a moment alone to get dressed.

daegan badariThe book’s blurb: DAEGAN: A BADARI WARRIORS SCIFI ROMANCE NOVEL

Ex-Special Forces soldier and mercenary Flo Michetti is bored with her assignment as a pilot for the genetically engineered Badari pack in their fight against the evil Khagrish scientists. She jumps at the chance to take a dangerous undercover mission. She infiltrates a group of human prisoners on their way to a secret lab in the southern ocean, where the Badari believe many more of their own kind have been created and are being experimented on. Once Flo has located the lab, found the Alpha among the Badari there and sent a report back, the plan will be to attack and rescue all the prisoners.

Arriving at the island Flo learns the true nature of the horrific experiment for which the humans have been brought to this remote location. Time will be perilously short to escape before it’s too late for all of them. She has to locate the Alpha of this captive southern pack, who conceals his identity to escape death at the hands of the Khagrish, and get him to join with her and her allies.

Daegan feels an instant attraction to Flo when the Badari and the humans are forced together by the Khagrish scientists, but there are mysteries and questions surrounding her. Before he reveals himself as the incognito Alpha she’s seeking, he wants answers to allay his doubts. He also wants Flo in his bed…but can he risk his heart to claim her as his mate?

Complicating the situation is a dangerous rival for Daegan’s position as Alpha, an oncoming hurricane and Flo’s resistance to abandoning her life as a soldier of fortune…as the Khagrish scientists prepare to initiate the experiment, the clock is ticking for humans and Badari alike.

  1. It seems the implications are that although this AI is ancient, it must be highly evolved–capable of humor. Nice touch!

Good details on the implant, too. 🙂

Happy New Year, Jean. I hope 2020 brings many blessings your way!

  2. As someone with much medical anxiety, I wonder if I could hire this A.I. to do my blood work. My veins are terrible. I find myself wondering where I can get one of these!

  3. That process was very quick and painless, but the technology of the transmitter and MARL seem more advanced than anything Flo is used to. An intriguing snippet!

  4. Interesting that the ancient technology is more advanced than anything they have now. I’d be a smidge worried about having a tracking chip implanted, but I guess a heroine has to do what she has to do.

  5. I found the comparing of the AI insert with chipping an animal amusing. I know it’s important to the story. Sorry. Happy New Year, Veronica.
